Can people see the videos you save?
Short answer: no. On Facebook, Instagram and TikTok alike, your saved items are private to you. Nobody sees your Saved section, nobody is notified when you save something, and the person who posted it cannot tell that you did.
That is the answer most people want. The longer answer is worth having too, because "private" covers less than it sounds like, and the parts it does not cover are the parts that surprise people.
Saved posts live at facebook.com/saved and are visible only to
you. Saving is not a like, a follow or a share — it produces no story, no
notification, and no entry in anyone else's feed.
Collections are the one exception worth knowing. A collection can be shared with specific people, and if you share one, anything you put in it afterwards is visible to them. That is a deliberate act with a confirmation, not something that happens by accident — but it is the only route by which a saved item becomes visible to somebody else.
Saved posts and reels are private, and this is stated plainly in the app. Collections are private too, unless you make one a shared collection and invite someone — again, deliberate.
The thing that catches people out on Instagram is not saving, it is everything adjacent to it. Likes are visible on the post. Following is visible on your profile. Viewing a story tells the poster you viewed it. Saving is the quiet one, and its neighbours are not.
TikTok
Favourites are private. Liked videos are a separate list, and that one has a setting — it can be public or private, and the default has changed more than once over the years. If you have ever wondered whether people can see what you liked, check that setting; it is not the same thing as your saves and it does not behave the same way.
What is actually visible
Two things are worth keeping apart:
- Nobody can browse your saves. There is no route, in any of these apps, from your profile to your saved list.
- The platform can. Your saves sit on their servers, tied to your account, and they shape what you get shown next. Private from other people is not the same as private from the platform, and your recommendations are the proof.
If you have ever saved something and then found the feed full of that subject for a week, you have already seen the difference.
The part nobody warns you about
Privacy is usually the wrong thing to worry about here. The real problem is that saving does not keep anything.
A save is a bookmark pointing at somebody else's file. When they delete the post, deactivate the account, switch to private, or the platform removes the video, your save turns into a grey box — silently, with no notification, and you will usually discover it months later while looking for that one specific thing. Your list is a list of things that were there when you added them.
Keeping something, rather than pointing at it
